December 1, 2018

Multiple sessions focused on issues related to Patient Provider Communication, addressing ways to optimize educational programs and public health initiatives, knowledge and behaviors and policies and practices designed to promote health literacy and patient engagement in care. Strong messages were heard about (1) the KEY roles/responsibilities of speech-language athologists and audiologists play in preparing ALL their patients/clients for future medical encounters, (2) the need for the profession to work interprofessionally and assume a major role across healthcare settings in ensuring that ALL patients can access to effective communication (as required by The Joint Commission).
